Eric McMullen gave North Bergen its third BCCA champ and he was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for his win at 195. |
SUFFERN -- Trailing Bergen Catholic by two points heading into the final round of the BCCA George Jockish Holiday Tournament at Rockland County Community College, Don Bosco Prep needed some help to come out as the team champion. Paramus freshman John Trovato provided it by winning a 3-2 decision over BC's Tyler Casamenti at 106 pounds and then the Ironmen took care of business on the matt as two of its three finalists -- Sal Mastriani (152) and freshman Zach Chakonis (220) -- took first place and propelled Don Bosco to earn the team title, 191-189, over second place BC. Emerson/Park Ridge, which was in in the mix heading into the final, settled for third place and the Group 1 championship.
We have a match by match break down of the finals below and we will add to our coverage all week. We have interviews with all of the BCCA champs and will wrap up the whole tournament on the next edition of The Wrestling Show, which will be available late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
