The seeds are in...
WALDWICK -- Over the first half of the season, St. Joseph has been the best team in Bergen County in everyone’s eyes. The Green Knights will have the opportunity to prove it on the court beginning next weekend as they look to defend their title as the top seed in the 51st Oscar F. Thompson Memorial Bergen County Jamboree.
The 14-0 Knights sit atop the 21-team field, which begins play on Sunday at two sites, Paramus Catholic and Bergen Catholic High schools. The Jamboree committee (chairman Ed Strohmeyer, Paul Puglise, Leon Steinberg, John Mazziotta and John Ryan) deliberated long and hard to seed what should be a very competitive tournament.
Englewood (9-5), Ridgewood (8-6) and Indian Hills (9-5) received entry into the tournament as committee selections, with the remaining 18 teams gaining entry via the .650 qualifying rule.
Bergen Catholic (11-4) was awarded the second seed, with undefeated Pascack Hills (12-0), Don Bosco (11-5) and Ridgefield Park (11-2) in the 3-4-5 spots.
A record 33 teams applied for the tournament this year, with 2006 semifinalist Fort Lee (8-7), Bogota (9-5), Ramsey (8-5), Rutherford (9-6) and Glen Rock (8-6) among those not earning berths in the field.
