ALLENDALE -- This week's NorthJerseySports.com Athlete of the Week (for the week ending May 14) is Northern Highlands' Sarah Gunderson.
Gunderson led Highlands to a perfect 4-0 week. But the senior pitcher started off by producing at the plate, hitting a two-run homerun in a 6-5 win over Jefferson on Tuesday. After tossing a shutout against Bergenfield she proceeded to throw a no-hitter, striking out 13 along the way, in a 2-0 win over Immaculate Conception in the Bergen County tournament on Saturday. In the county quarterfinals, on Sunday, she threw nine shutout innings, striking out seven and allowing just one hit, to lead her team to a 3-0 win over Ridgewood, the No. 1 team in the state.
