FRANKLIN LAKES -- This week's NorthJerseySports.com Athlete of the Week (for the week ending January 17) is Ramapo High School's Matt Latka.
After scoring 14 points in a win over Paramus on Tuesday, the 6-foot-4 senior shooting guard shined in wins over Non-Public Bergen County powers St. Joseph's of Montvale and Don Bosco Prep. Latka, who was recently nominated for the McDonald's All-American Game, led all players with 26 points to help Ramapo rally for a 69-63 overtime win over St. Joe's. Then, against Don Bosco Prep in Sunday's Public vs. Private Showcase, Latka came up with big baskets at crucial points in the game. His pull-up jumper with 5:37 to play gave the Green Raiders their first lead. A spin move for a layup with 1:28 to play gave Ramapo some breathing room before holding on for 66-62 win. He finished with 27 points to lead all scorers.
